Duanesha Potter, FNP-BC, MSN in Nursing Leadership and Development, BSN, RN

Hello! My name is Duanesha Potter. I have 20+ years of nursing experience. My biggest influencer of becoming a healthcare professional was my siblings and grandmother. I started my nursing career as a caregiver like many of you. I wanted to learn more so I took a CNA class. I worked for a while as a CNA at a nursing home and adult day facility. I then went to our local community college to become a LPN. After working as a LPN for 5 years, I decided to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse (RN). I obtained my associates degree and license as a RN and worked for a hospital and as a school nurse. I worked for one of the largest hospital systems in Indiana. During my time as a RN, I observed that patients received great care within the hospital that helped them get stable but when they went back home, their health declined. Most often their health declined due to lack of health education regarding their health conditions. I then decided that I wanted to help people within my community so I started a home care agency. After 2 months of starting the agency, I decided to get more education and graduated with a Bachelors and Masters in Nursing Leadership and Development. I did my capstone project on how to retain caregivers and home health aide in my agency. That project helped me develop my own home health aide program. After working for a couple of years as an Educator, I decided to go back to school again to become a family nurse practitioner. My ultimate goal is to restore and perfect the quality of care delivered to my community so I teach healthcare students how to increase their understanding of the care they deliver to increase the quality of care they deliver. This helps me accomplish my legacy and calling of upholding and increasing the Quality of Healthcare through increasing the education and skill building techniques of students.
